Beverly Axelrod papers

Abstract

Beverly Axelrod was a San Francisco-based lawyer heavily involved in civil rights and social justice movements and organizations in the 1950s and 1960s, both as an attorney and as an activist. Her papers consist of correspondence, legal files, organization documentation, activist literature, and other material relating to her life and career. A large portion of the collection documents Axelrod's relationship with writer and activist Eldridge Cleaver.

The Conard-Pyle Company of West Grove, Pennsylvania, was a large horticultural enterprise that specialized in the cultivation and hybridization of roses, best known for its famed Star Roses. The papers chronicle Conard-Pyle's evolution from a small-scale retail business to an influential wholesaler, as well as the financial, legal, and marketing concerns of a major nursery company.

Professor Emeritus of marine studies Franklin C. Daiber (1919-2003) and his wife Joanne Currier Daiber (1927-2007) were two of the first marine scientists hired by the University of Delaware in the 1950s. The Franklin C. and Joanne Currier Daiber papers include correspondence, photographs, negatives, artwork, and publications documenting their personal relationships and professional research and scholarship as marine scientists at the University of Delaware in the mid-twentieth century.
